Easy DIY Dog-Friendly Apple Bark Recipe Your Pup Will Love


Fruity frozen yogurt bark treats are trending and there are lots of fun ways to make it for your dog. Every day, I give my golden retrievers slices of apples, which inspired me to make this dog-friendly apple bark.

Yogurt bark is a fun and easy-to-make frozen treat you can share with your dog.

There are different ways to make yogurt bark with fruits such as strawberries and make it dog-friendly. In this yogurt bark recipe, Berry Good Dog-Friendly Strawberry Bark, I used my dog’s favorite dog treat; crushed and sprinkled it on top to make it extra special for your dog.

What You Need To Make Apple Bark for Dogs

Three Main Ingredients:
Sliced Apples
Plain Yogurt
Blue Spirulina

Other Ingredients:
Strawberries and Blueberries (cut out into small pieces)
Dog’s Favorite Dog Treats (crushed)

Equipment You Need:
Flat Baking Sheet or Wood Cutting Board
Parchment Paper
Bowls and Spoon

The main ingredients for this recipe are apples. You can use any red apples. To make it easy for my dog to consume, I used mini apples called Rockit™. When you cut them, the size is just perfect, and I find these apples to be sweeter than other larger types of apples.

Yes, in moderation, dogs can eat apples. Apples are full of vitamins A and C, plus fiber. You can feed your dog apple slices, including the skin. Feeding your dog apples with skin can benefit dogs with allergies because they contain a natural antihistamine called quercetin.

Yes, dogs can eat unflavored and unsweetened yogurt. Yogurt is one of the best sources of probiotics, a type of live bacteria that can help your dog’s digestion. You can feed your dog regular yogurt or Greek yogurt.

DIY Dog-Friendly Apple Bark: How to Make Dog-Friendly Apple Bark

Apple bark is extremely easy to whip up for your dog. The hardest part is waiting for it to chill and set! This apple frozen yogurt dog treat recipe takes 2-3 hours.

1. Cut the apples
You can cut them in two ways:
a) Cut the apple into rings by removing the stem and turning the apple on its side. Cut through the middle, then cut another slice in the same direction. Slice about 1/2 inch thick or less. You’ll have rings of apples. If there are seeds, remove them.
OR
b) Cut the apple into slices by removing the stem, then cutting it in half. Take one half of the apple and slice it into pieces that are 2 inches or less.

2. Mix 1 cup of yogurt and 1/4 teaspoon of blue spirulina

3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and pour the mixed yogurt and blue spirulina. Use a rubber spatula to smooth the mixture out in an even layer. Reserve some of the mixture to top the apples with.

4. Place the sliced apples on top of the mixture

5. Add some of the mixture on the apple splices

6. Top with strawberries, blueberries, and crushed dog treats (optional)

7. Freeze for about 2-3 hours

8. Break into bite-sized pieces

9. Serve to your dog. Optional: sprinkle more crushed dog treats on top

How to Store These Frozen Apple Bark for Dogs

You can store these delicious apple bark dog treats in the freezer for about a week on parchment paper or in an ice cube tray.
