G2 XXL is Red Sea’s Biggest Max Nano Ever | Reef Builders

Red Sea has just launched a new All-In-One reef-ready aquarium model called the Max Nano G2 XXL. The first thing to note is that at 35.5”/90cm long, and 53 gallons/200 liters capacity, it’s NOT a Nano tank, but it brings all that Max Nano goodness from its smaller brothers and sisters, combining to make a very complete, very appealing AIO aquarium package.

At nearly three feet long the Red Sea Max Nano G2 XXL is Nano in name only.

Features

The tank’s total dimensions are 35.5”x20”x22”/90x50x55cm and it’s made from 12mm low iron glass. Like the other Nano Max tanks, the XXL carries the characteristic removable weir comb and black glass rear panel which hide the built-in protein skimmer behind it. But unlike the smaller Max Nanos, this one comes with 2 x ReefLED 50 app-controlled light fixtures, and 2 x 1550lph AC Sicce return pumps, with one placed at each end for strong circulation.

The XXL includes the Max Nano filter bag but omits the desktop ATO gravity-fed reservoir in favor of a ReefATO+ and NanoMat-ready rear sump – two quality items we recommend for any G2 Nano Max. Note these don’t come with the tank, but the ATO, roller, and ReefCan reservoir can all be purchased separately as part of the MAX NANO G2 Pro Kit. The tank can be purchased with or without a cabinet, and the cabinet comes with adjustable feet.

Rearview with stock twin return pumps, twin outlets, media rack, Protein skimmer, bubble traps and a Max Nano Filter Bag.

What we think

Red Sea already has a large range of reef-ready aquariums with volumes from 75-1000 liters, and it even already has a three-foot fully equipped AIO in the Max-E Series 260. But the recent launch of the NanoMat has made it too tempting not to make it available to more aquarium models and the Max E can be converted to a sump system, where the Max Nano range can’t.

Where Red Sea excels versus other AIOs is the preselected accessories that come with every tank, like the mechanical filtration, return pumps, and the protein skimmer, removing the hassle of product selection to equip a bare tank and barring a heater (not supplied,) its ready to set up, fill up, plug in and go on the day of purchase. The lights are proven, the skimmer and return pumps are reliable and water chemistry permitting, a wide range of corals could be grown, just using stock equipment.

Upgrade with ATO+ and NanoMat for an even better reefing experience.

We recommend the ATO+, NanoMat, and ReefCan MAX NANO G2 Pro Kit combo for superior mechanical filtration and evaporation management, and you’re probably going to need a cover net too. But once again Red Sea has made marine tanks easy, for both newbies entering the hobby as well as a fun project for seasoned saltwater aquarists too. We’re keen to see what people create with them.
