Marine technology companies ATI Aquaristik GmbH and Nyos Aquatics GmbH have joined forces in an unexpected merger. ATI is best known for its lighting products and ICP tests, while Nyos is best known for its protein skimmers, aquariums, and salt, so the two German companies complement each other and we now expect an even more complete range of reef aquarium products that will work together as part of an ecosystem, in the future.
The merger also expands ATI’s leadership team. In addition to company founder and innovator Oliver Pritzel, Matthias Kapaun and Dr. Christian Kapaun are now Managing Directors at ATI. In addition, Daniel Mußgnug, the previous sales manager at Nyos, will now also be the contact person for all ATI dealers in Germany and Austria.
“We are looking forward to working together and also to the challenges that the current times bring with them,” said ATI’s new joint Managing Director Dr. Christian Kapaun. “A lot of things are changing and this partnership is very good news for us and the industry.”
“Through this partnership, we will be even more efficient and will be able to bring even better products onto the market, said ATI founder Oliver Pritzel. “We’re excited to see what the future brings.”
Companies merge for lots of reasons, but we expect the ATI/Nyos partnership will bring better global distribution and better buying power while streamlining costs, logistics, and manufacturing. With Nyos joining the aquarium market, we look forward to seeing an Opus aquarium/ATI Straton Pro Combo while Nyos salt will be the perfect accompaniment to ATI’s ICP tests.
Both brands previously supplied supplements such as calcium and magnesium so will one become “better” and one “best”? Will both continue side by side? Or will ATI or Nyos claim the chemistry division of the merged brands, and Nyos, the equipment?
Nyos is distributed in the US by Aperture Pet & Life, while ATI’s US distributor is Clear Choice Distribution. ATI and Nyos will have had many different international distributors, pre-merger, so reef aquarium stores and their suppliers will be following closely for any potential changes to supply.
