Cade’s Reef X offers a Bolt-On extra tank solution for existing Reef Systems | Reef Builders

Cade aquariums have teased us with an interesting new aquarium model they are soon to release called Reef X. In essence, it is an extra tank that can be plumbed into an existing sump-based reef tank, sharing its water, yet providing a separate tank at the same time for coral frags, macroalgae, or pretty much anything you can think of.

Four models will be available: ReefX 560: 500x560x250h, ReefX 560/N: 400x560x250h, ReefX 700: 500x700x250h, and ReefX 700/N: 400x700x250h, and the ReefX 560 and 700 match the footprint of Cade’s nifty Caddy cabinets and can sit alongside a Cade tank or any other make. If you need a bit of magnet room on either side then both are also available in narrower widths and the best part is you don’t have to use the Caddy or even an existing Cade reef tank setup. You can buy tank-only and site it on a stand, and in a position, of your choice.

All Reef Xs still come with a Cade aluminum jump net, foam base pad, and raised rear panel to enable lighting brackets to be fitted. But the best part is the three-pipe external weir system that includes an emergency drain, precision gate valve for adjustment (as good as you’d get on a bigger Cade,) and a directional single return nozzle. The only thing you don’t get is a length of flexy hose for the return, as that will vary from tank to tank.

We really liked the Caddy cabinets when they launched as almost every reefer needs extra space for those extra plugs, cables, controllers, and gadgets, but didn’t even think about placing another tank on top. So many reefers either already utilize or really need a second or third tank for frags and by bolting it onto your existing system you literally get the best of both worlds.

The potential of three tanks all running on one ecosystem…

No need for extra skimmers, heaters, ATOs, or dosing pumps, and for your frags it’s a home-from-home. But a second tank like Reef X opens up so many other possibilities too, like making a macroalgae display, mangroves, a tank for other types of inverts, or small oddball fish. Reef X is definitely one of those products that we didn’t think we needed until we saw it, and now we want one.

Where can we buy Cade Reef X?

Reef X is launching in Australia and Israel at the end of April 2024. For the USA, UK, Singapore, South Korea, and India it will be available at the end of May 2024.
